Transformers Online (CN) - Limited Closed Beta starts

I am typing this post with a heavy heart. The reason being I wasn't able to secure or apply for a key to enter NetDragon's new MMO third person shooter, Transformers Online. The first phase, Elite Closed Beta, is now commonly known through the Chinese gaming industry. But I shall call it Limited Closed Beta instead since it is my blog :D With the beta phase's start, the new trailer which was teased at ChinaJoy 2011 was released into the wild as well.

Transformers Online is following what most online shooters are doing now, with both PvE and PvP maps for players to enjoy. But do note that the game is a third person shooter, still a rarity in my opinion in the global online gaming market.

Unfortunately, there seems to be little chance Transformers Online will be ported to the English market, as Jagex will be developing Transformers Universe (link) instead, a browser MMO. If you are asking why can't 2 Transformers MMO survive in the same market, you will have to ask Hasbro yourself... More information can be found in my previous posts (link).

[ChinaJoy 2011] Transformers Online screenshots

As mentioned in my previous posts on the game (link), Transformers Online, developed by NetDragon, will only be available for the Asia region. This is due to Jagex, the creator of Runescape, having the rights to develop a Transformers MMO for the English market (Transformers Universe).

With that said, Transformers Online will feature various different PvE and PvP modes using a third person shooter (TPS) view. Here are some pictures and screenshots from the Transformers Online booth! Note that all characters will be able to transform into vehicle mode. I am also very sure Bumblebee has taken over Optimus Prime in popularity rating in China judging by the giant statue above... More information can be found here (link).

[ChinaJoy 2011] Preview - Transformers Online

Before I forget, I think I missed out on Transformers Online. Licensed only to Asia regions, with Jagex developing Transformers Universe (browser MMO), Transformers Online is a MMOTPS, or online third person shooter. If you have missed out my previous posts on the game, do click on the (link) here.

Developed by China's NetDragon, also the company behind Dungeon Keeper Online, a new third faction was revealed besides the Autobots and Decepticons. It is now officially known as Pirates, a group of renegades loyal to neither side led by their leader, Thundertron. Thundertron blames all inhabitants of Cybertron for his planet's demise, hence he destroys all no matter if they are Autobots or Decepticons. The storyline is actually much longer, but I am lazy.

There are currently 6 selling points of the game listed, which includes the TPS mode supporting a clear 260 degrees view for players, various PvP modes, exciting new concept PvE modes, up to 5 different types of builds available and over 100 kinds of vehicles to transform into. The first Closed Beta starts in August, but I am sure I won't be able to get in given the stringent rules imposed on getting suck keys nowadays in China.

Transformers Online (CN) - Closed Beta scheduled for August

NetDragon, the developer for the upcoming Chinese online shooter, Transformers Online, announced that the game will see its first Closed Beta phase begin soon in August. The game will be a third person shooter (TPS) with RPG elements and infused with the lore of Transformers Prime, the most recent cartoon series. And yes, it has apparently been confirmed that players will be able to create and customize their own robots. Below are 5 weapons available in the game.

↑ The single hand axe. The best melee weapon found in the game packed with tons of damage. It is suitable for all Transformers in the game. It even got Megatron as the model!
↑ The two handed sword. It is not only used as a weapon of destruction, but can also be used as a shield to block damage.
↑ According to the report, this is the double-hand machine gun. While heavy, emptying the bullets into a crowd (perhaps during mass PvP) will yield highly positive results.
↑ The magnetic cannon. With its high critical rate, this weapon can be used to send an enemy back to the scrapyard pretty quick.
↑ Bumblebee here is the model for the plasma cannon. The most basic ranged weapon has balanced range, damage and is the easiest to use.

Transformers Online (CN) - Preparing for launch

So, if you have not read my previous posts, there are actually 2 Transformers Online game in development. This particular one is from Chinese developer NetDragon, officially announced a few days ago and it will be a third person online shooter (MMOTPS). I read that NetDragon is kind of pissed at Hasbro for giving the rights to have 2 similar titled games being developed at the same time, but then again it is just a rumor.

Some character artwork was shown and I thought I should share them. Each faction currently has a new robot on their side, together with an unannounced one. I am sure more will be revealed as time passes by. If you are thinking of creating your own Autobot or Decepticon, be prepared to be disappointed. But otherwise, stay tuned for more info as the game prepares to launch later this year.

Transformers Online (CN) - First images teased

Over the past few months, I have been posting information about Transformers Online (CN), while most remain skeptical if this ambitious MMORPG will make it, further news confirmed that there are actually 2 online games being developed for the beloved classic animated series (click here for info). The Chinese version, currently being developed by NetDragon, released more information and some artwork just recently.

For Transformers Online (CN), the designs will be based on the latest animated series announced by Hasbro, Transformers Prime. The 2nd season of the series started just in February, so click here for more details. A 3D MMORPG, Transformers Online (CN) is also touted by NetDragon as an "action shooter" online game. The game will a third person shooter MMO, as posted previously. Below are some of the first images released by NetDragon.

Transformers Online (CN) - Early details

As posted some time back, Netdragon, which is arguably more famous in the English MMO market for titles including Conquer Online, has revealed to be working on Transformers Online, a 3D MMO adaptation of the popular Hasbro franchise. Note that Runescape's developer, Jagex, is also working on a Transformers MMO, but both will be different as you can read here. A few days ago, the CEO of China-headquartered Netdragon (below) lifted the lid on what players can expect for the game.

1. Transformers Online will be released in tandem with the 3rd and final part of the Transformers movie.

2. Other than the Autobots and Decepticons, there will be a 3rd faction thrown into the mix. No specific details on this faction for the moment.

3. The 3rd faction will appear in future cartoons and will have a toy line as well, but it will first be introduced in Transformers Online.

4. Transformers Online will be a third-person shooter (TPS) 3D MMO. The robots will be designed according to the latest models from franchise owner, Hasbro.

5. Players will start out as weak robots, but of course will have the chance to be upgraded as they advance into the game. There will be battles in the cities, beaches, desert and even locations found in the movies.

6. The battles will not be limited to Earth, as players will get to visit Cybertron as well. In some scenarios, Autobots will have to work with Decepticons to drive out the invading 3rd faction.

7. There will be a system of players transforming and combining into stronger robots as well during battles. More specific details were not announced.

Transformers Online - 2 different MMOs to launch

While many players have heard about Transformers Online being confirmed as a full fledged MMORPG set to be released in 2012, I feel that some clarifications should be made clear. There will be TWO different Transformers Online, 1 developed by Chinese studio Net Dragon while the other by English studio, Jagex, also the creator of popular web-browser MMO Runescape. Net Dragon is also the developer of the upcoming Dungeon Keeper Online.

For Net Dragon's version, the game has been licensed for Asia, Russia, Middle East and North Africa. For Jagex's version, the game has been licensed for North America, South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Other than these 2 companies, Activision has the rights for all non-MMO Transformers game titles.

Transformers Online confirmed

Well well well, no one really thought this will happen, eh? Probably the biggest announcement (after Mabinogi Heroes China) so far at this year's annual ChinaJoy convention, Hasbro and Netdragon has revealed that they will be working to develop Transformers Online. Yes, this is indeed legitimate, not a clone or replica the China gaming industry is famous for. And it will certainly be a full-fledged MMORPG, not just a simple browser type MMO.

Above: Netdragon's Transformers Online team with representatives from Hasbro

The developer, Netdragon, is currently serving the English audience through their portal, 91 Community and also TQ Digital Entertainment, with Free to Play MMOs like Eudemons Online, Conquer Online and Zero Online. Back in China, the developer claimed deals with Disney to develop Fantasy Disney Online and with EA to develop Dungeon Keeper World. This new deal with Hasbro will certainly raise some eyebrows within the MMO indsutry.

Transformers Online is expected to be released in Asia and the Middle East by 2011. Stay tuned for more details!
