[G*Star 2011] Lineage Eternal - Official trailer

Ah yes, the official trailer for Lineage Eternal: Twilight Resistance is here! Perhaps the most talked-about title so far for G*Star 2011, NCsoft certainly snatched the spotlight away from all of its rival game companies. More information on the game can be found here (link). Ok, I shall cut the crap short, so enjoy the trailer!

Just to add on, here are some artwork for Lineage Eternal, depicting some of the locations which can be found in the game.

[G*Star 2011] Lineage Eternal - More details

(Source) Yes yes, it has been a busy morning since all my sources are flooded with Lineage Eternal's news. While most of them are repeated,I managed to chance upon an interview taken by Japanese gaming website, 4Gamer.net, with the game's lead development team (below). While I am not translating the whole interview due to my incapability in the language, here are some confirmed details from the script. Click here for the official game trailer !!!

1. Lineage Eternal's storyline takes place 200 years after the Lineage storyline, with familiar characters included in the storyline and world view as well. Note that Lineage II is the prequel of Lineage, set 150 years before. Lineage Eternal will be the "oldest" in terms of timeline.

2. Lineage Eternal is still under prototype development and the percentage of completion is unavailable now.

3. Lineage Forever, the originally rumored title (link), is a different project, it is not Lineage Eternal. What ?!

4. Lineage Eternal has been in development for 3 years now with 80 members.

5. The classes now are Knight, Mage and Spirit Archer, with 2 or 3 more to be added.

6. Terrains and destructive environments will play a big part in combat, touted as a "new combat experience".

7. No plans to port the game over to other platforms, with in-house testing scheduled in the 2nd half of 2012.

8. Even with many events going on in one screen due to the massive war, a high end system is not needed as NCsoft will scale the game accordingly to everyone's needs. The goal is to have up to 500 moving objects (players, monster) on screen during massive wars.

9. The quarter view, or isometric view, is coined as "Smart View" system in Lineage Eternal. The camera angle is not fixed, players can still rotate and zoom in or out.

10. The PK system outside of warfare will be different from Lineage or Lineage II, since open PK may stress players. Lineage Eternal is taking a different approach to this system and in the current plan, it is not mentioned as "PK".

11. The "Drag and Hold" feature will not detect complex gestures, with the normal straight line or circular motions being detected easily.

12. Lineage Eternal is developed from scratch as a "global project", hence players should expect to see it hit Japan in the near future.

[G*Star 2011] NCsoft patents Lineage Eternal tech

(Source) If you are somewhat a tech geek like myself, you would have known that Apple patented the "swipe to unlock" technology not long ago. In what I view as a similar move, NCsoft confirmed that they have patented the "Drag and Hold" combat system found in Lineage Eternal (link). In a nutshell, other game developers will not be able to use this feature in their games unless permission is sought from NCsoft, most probably at a price. [G*Star 2011] Lineage Eternal : Twilight Resistance

(Source) In a really unexpected move, NCsoft announced the 3rd title for the Lineage series, Lineage Eternal, at a pre-G*Star 2011 press conference earlier today. And yes, Lineage Eternal will be a new title, not an update to Lineage II. According to reports, combat will be action based with players able to make use of objects to their advantage. The game is slated to enter Closed Beta later in 2012, with its debut trailer coming in 2 days' time. Click here for the official game trailer !!!

The storyline for Lineage Eternal is somewhat similar in terms of fantasy value. detailing the rise of heroes after 200 years of tyranny under the kingdom. Eventually, the world fell under the rule of evil forces, leading to a group of young heroes determined to right the wrong and standing up against them.

One of the main features will be PvE and PvP combat, with the screen littered with opponents and allies in a grand war of unsurpassed scale. There will be chaos no doubt, but apparently it will be going the way similar to Dynasty Warriors with all the crazy amount of objects, enemies and players on the screen at the same time.

Talking about making use of objects, here is an example given. If you are looking to cross a broken bridge, you can throw a hook across to the other side and slowly climb over. You can even step on an ally character to climb over a castle wall!

The "Drag and Hold" combat system is somewhat new to online games. For example, if you are casting a fire spell on your hand, you can drag and hold the move and move a full circle, in the meantime damaging every enemy around you. Awesome!

Update: The screenshot below displays how the environment reacts to various spells. In this case, the weeds are catching fire due to the mage's fire spell.

Update: Another example of "Drag and Hold", the mage is casting the Telekinesis skill in the screenshot below. By dragging the target and throwing him at a nearby monster crowd, splash damage can be done to them as shown in the 2nd screenshot.

During large scale wars, there will also be a "Smart View" option for players, where the camera automatically adjusts itself for the best view for players.

Below are some in-game images, although kind of small.  Note that the camera view will turn isometric, similar to the one found in the Diablo series. The game is still full 3D though, but expect most of your time to be in this view mode. Only 3 classes are shown now, the Knight, Mage and Spirit Archer. Lineage Eternal is looking somewhat like a homage to Linage 1 if you ask me. Click on the images in this post for the expanded version.
